#WriteMentor 2019

Ever since I signed with my agent, I have wanted to help other writers who may be struggling with their novel. I don’t have all the answers, and I still question my own writing all the time. What I have learnt over the past few years, is that nothing helps more than an independent person (or three) looking over your work.

So I am thrilled to be a part of the #WriteMentor programme this year, and can’t wait see what this exciting opportunity brings!

My name is Kereen, from Birmingham UK. I am an agented writer, with a number of published work. I was highly commended for the Faber & Faber (FAB prize), was nominated for best short fiction in 2017, and have short stories in the Home anthology, and For Sale: Baby Shoes.

I also write poetry, and micro stories on Instagram

What am I looking for?

I am looking for either upper MG or YA. I like contemporary, magic or fantasy. I prefer contemporary with romance, mystery, or anything that grabs you at the first sentence and takes you on a wild ride. But I am open to anything.

In particular, I am looking for strong characters, and unforgettable secondary characters. Give me quirky and relatable. Give me funny and clumsy.

I am also really interested in working with UK writers from diverse backgrounds, whose characters are in strong settings, having the same adventures as the Katniss Everdeen’s and the Harry Potter’s of this world. Also, more To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, where diverse characters fall in love, and have strong bonds with their families and friends to help them through their adventures. Although I do love a good twist and some drama too!

I am looking for a mentee who is open to feedback and suggestions. Someone who doesn’t mind communicating via email.

I can’t wait to read about the adventures you have created! Thank you for taking a peek at my profile. I am happy to chat on Twitter if needed. Just drop me a DM.
